How do Digital Scrappers use Pinterest?

with 2 Comments

Pinterest is like no other website. It is a wish board, an inspiration board, a dream board, a visual bookmark site, a planning board, a cookbook board, a decorating board, and an idea board, all wrapped up in one visual gallery that you can get lost in for hours about every subject under the sun.

Pinterest isn’t just another social media board where you are bombarded with the everyday minutiae of what your friends and neighbors are doing or thinking.

Pinterest is nothing like Facebook. No one talks about their kids or complains about their husbands. No one brags about their house or shows you photos of what their cat puked up yesterday. Pinterest is all about you – what you’re interested in, what you want to keep track of, and what inspires you.

Pinterest is a visual gallery for you to record your dreams.

How to Use Pinterest as a Digital Scrapper | Digital Scrapper.com

  • Pin your favorite layouts. We all visit galleries all over the web and find layouts that we find inspiring. We sign up for the site, add the layouts to our favorites on that site, then wander away. When we are ready to scrap, we remember a layout we wanted to take inspiration from, but can never remember where to find it. Now, you can go to your own Layout Inspiration bookmark board and there it is! All in one place, from all over the web!
  • Pin great photography. Your photo(s) can make or break your scrapbook page, and no amount of fancy designing can make up for a poorly taken photo. Get in the habit of pinning great photos to give yourself the inspiration you need to take your own photography to a new level.
  • Pin your wishlist. When you find a digital scrapbooking product that you love, but you want to wait before you purchase it, pin it to your wishlist board on Pinterest. You can even create a board for each of your favorite stores. When it’s time to purchase, you can remind yourself of the product you loved, and click through to get it. Becausee not every store has a wishlist feature on their cart, this saves you trying to remember what you loved, wherever you shop.
  • Pin your favorite tutorials. When you find tutorials on the web (like those on Digital Scrapper!), pin them to your Pinterest board so you never lose track of them again. Sure, you have your bookmarking tool in your favorite browser, but if it doesn’t show you the preview of the page, how can you see what it’s really about?
  • Pin your words. We’re always looking for quotes and inspiration to leave on our pages for our families. Pinterest users pin thousands of inspirational words and fonts all the time. Make your own quote board to use as a way to inspire yourself for greatness, and to leave words of encouragement for your family.
  • Pin Christmas crafts. For those of you who are crafty and want to make your Christmas gifts, use Pinterest as a way to pin all those ideas of wonderful Christmas gift and craft ideas (or for any holiday, for that matter). When you find them all during the year, you’ll have them in one handy spot to review before you get started! This also applies to holiday cards of all seasons.
  • Pin Others. One really great benefit of Pinterest is that you can follow other people to get inspriation from what they pin and repin it to your own boards. You can choose to follow them and always see what they pin, or just browse what they are pinning (like window shopping) and pin from their board. You can easily choose to follow their whole board, or just one specific board, and you can unfollow just as easily. You can  choose one of the Pinterest categories on the main board to browse through (like Most Popular Pins,  pins on Cooking, etc.), or you can type a specific subject into the search box.

At Digital Scrapper, we’re pinning, too! Not only are we sharing the latest and greatest from our site, we’re also sharing what is inspiring us, from tutorials around the web and from layouts you’ve created!

Here’s what some of our staff has to say about how they use Pinterest for themselves:

Susie Roberts (Art Director/Video Instructor/Designer): Now that I have an iPad, I cannot go a day without logging in to Pinterest. I have sixty-two boards, mostly  filled with inspiration for my video tutorials, digital scrapbooking products, and page design. But I also use it to pin anything that might be of interest to me in my day-to-day life such as cooking, activities I can do with my granddaughter, and useful tips and tricks. I especially love that I can collaborate with people I’m working with to show them my inspiration and ideas.

Darcy Baldwin (Forum Director/Social Media Director): I use Pinterest to track everything. I use it as a visual bookmarking site more than just an inspiration board. I pin recipes I want to try out, homeschooling references I want to use, things that make me laugh, Christmas and birthday gift ideas for my family, scrapbooking layouts and tutorials that I want to try, ideas for house decorating and organizing, and things that make my brain happy.

Barb Brookbank (Video Instructor/Creative Team Member): I’ve been using Pinterest to save things I love and admire and want to return to for inspiration; beautiful photography, ideas for holiday decorations, and crafts. I also pin ideas for scrapbooking and they are not always layouts. I pin quotes I love, designs from magazines, and even tips on better writing techniques. Then, of course, I have a board where I pin my best photos in the hopes of generating traffic to my blog.

Nann Dalton (Creative Team Member): I use Pinterest in a lot of different ways, especially as a way to spark my imagination and as a place to hold ideas for future use.

Pinterest has an easy tutorial set up on their site about how to use it, plus an awesome Pin button that you can put on your browser to pin anything from the web, even if they don’t have a Pin-It button set up on their site.

I have another fun idea… For my birthday I spent the day at my daughters home. She went to my Pinterest board and found recipes that I wanted to try and prepared some for our meals that day as a gift to me. I LOVED IT!
I also track my children’s Pinterest boards for gift ideas for them.
