Jen,
To add meaning to Thanksgiving, we often have a small candy cup (think a paper cupcake liner only smaller) at each person’s Thanksgiving dinner plate. It is filled with candy corn and goldfish crackers. We share the Thanksgiving story about pilgrims who were actually ill-equipped for taking care of themselves in a new country. It is told that they were starving, and it was actually the native people who helped them survive, and taught them to farm by using a dead fish in the planting hole, then adding the seed.
This leads to each person’s opportunity to say what he/she is thankful for.
I was thinking that you and the DS team are like those who shared the corn and fish; you share tips and tricks so generously with those of us who are striving to become better digital pilgrims! Thank you for all the wonderful resources! While I could find some of these things online myself, you make it so EASY and SPEEDY. I am grateful!

You find Thanksgiving “Hokey”? Why is that? i have never known anyone who knows the history of that holiday to think it was “hokey” – i’m not being critical, i’m just puzzled. First, it honors our Pilgrim ancestors, and secondly, Abraham Lincoln proclaimed it a national holiday following the most divisive situation to wrack the young nation less than 100 years after we gained independence–the war between the State – ie: The Civil War. The grief this nation endured during the five years of that war that was costly in terms of lives, money, crops, and destruction of arable land was tremendous. Lincoln hoped to reunite the country and bring, not just unity to the states, but to families who had been divided by opposing loyalties. My great-great-grandfather served in the American Revolution, but i had family on both sides of the war between the states, so when Thanksgiving Day comes, it isn’t hokey to me–it is an important day of rememberance–remembering where “we” came from, and the struggles that are on-going to keep us “one nation under God” – a nation of free people in a world of dictators and repressive regimes; a nation for which the Statue of Liberty is a bold statement of our belief in the worth of the individual, the hope of liberty, and the freedom that only a democratic-republic can offer. i don’t find any of those values ‘hokey’ – but i wonder why you do. Please don’t take this as criticism, Jen; one of the great things about America is that we are free to express our opinions without fear of retribution for it – even when we disagree, we can still celebrate our differences as well as our similarities.

As for “hokey,” I think you misunderstood.
I find the FONTS representing Thanksgiving to be hokey,
not the holiday itself. 🙂
