Complex Masks + Bold & Busy Backgrounds = Amazing Anchors

BONUS — Quick Bold & Busy Pattern Tip Using Masks

I’m a HUGE fan of complex masks. They are MEGA versatile, even when paired with bold and busy background papers.

Open a complex mask and add it to a scrapbook page.

A complex mask can take many forms. Here’s a photo mask from Florju Designs, a transfer from Tiramisu Designs, and a paint splatter from Just Jaimee. The color doesn’t matter. The big thing you’re looking for is varied edges. Varied opacities within the mask is a plus.

Open a bold and busy background paper with a small-to-medium-sized pattern.
Place the paper above the complex mask on your scrapbook page.

Here are some papers from my stash that would work perfectly. These papers are from Susie Roberts, Anita Designs, and Kristin Cronin-Barrow.

Clip the paper to the complex mask (Layer > Create Clipping Mask). Make sure the paper covers the entire mask.

Use As an Anchor
