Digital Scrapper Template Challenge

with 40 Comments

Today’s the beginning of our Template Challenge! Jenny Binder, a member of our Digital Scrapper Team, has created this awesome template to share with you all!

Template created by Jenny Binder

I love this two-page layout format! Here’s an example layout spread I made using the October 2010 Premier kit, “At Home”, by Paislee Press:

Layout created by Andrea Graves

If you’re new to using layered templates in a psd file, check out this tutorial about clipping masks from Susie Roberts. If you’re still hungry for more about clipping masks, check out a list of our tutorials using clipping masks.

Now, for the requirements for this challenge:

  1. Download the template below.
  2. Use any kit you love to create a double page layout using this template.
  3. Post your individual pages in our Challenge Gallery.
  4. All participants will receive a lovely Posting Bonus.

This challenge is open for 2 weeks. It will officially be closed to new entries on the night of October 17, 2010 at midnight (Pacific Time.)

We will announce the winner and post the winning layout here on the Digital Scrapper Blog, our Facebook page, and in our forum within a week of the challenge end date. The winner will receive a $10 gift certificate to our Digital Scrapper Shop. Good luck! We can’t wait to see your entries! 🙂

Enjoy!

I would love to use this template but I can’t download it. The download stops about 3/4 of the way through and just keeps going and going. Is it too late to get this in February 2011? Or is the link broken somehow? I was able to download some other templates from the challenges section of the DS blog today, but not this one. Thanks!

A realllllly love this type of template! It doesn’t leave a lot of ’empty space’. I have so many pics that it would take me through eternity to get them all scrapped if I only put a couple on a page. LOL

thank you for the two page template. I had no trouble dl. I did miss the deadline, though. Maybe next time. It’s a great template.

I love this template and would like to use it as a 6×6 card. Is it possible to shrink the size to 12×6? Then I would use the instructions you gave to cut it in half and print it out on my computer.

    Thank you!

      Hi Karen.

Yes, it’s possible to reduce the size of this template to the 12×6. Just click on all of the layers in the layers palette (select all the layers by pressing control and clicking each layer) and then resize – that’s if you want to resize the template. If you just want to reduce your pages to a smaller size for printing at home, do the following:
      1. Save the layout as a jpeg.
      2. Open an new document as the size you want to print, in your case, a 12×6 or 6×6.
      3. Open the jpeg version of the layout.
      4. Drag the jpeg layout onto your new document, and resize it.
      5. Print away!

      I hope that helps! 🙂

Hi! I used your awesome template, and want to post it in the Challenge Gallery. I’ve just registered for the forum and activated it through my email, but when I tried to post it won’t let me. Am I too late to meet the deadline?
    Thanks

Although I’m not new to PSE (just installed ver.9), I’ve never submitted anything. Yesterday I bit the bullet and accepted the challenge, but I’m not sure how to save and download it. Can you guide me to the instructions? They must have been in one of the Premier member tutorials, but I don’t remember which one.

Love the blog format, and appreciate the opportunity to respond and exchange ideas.

Oooops! Shoulda checked in the forum, first. Just found the info and printed it out. Glad I caught this before I bothered someone for the answer. Now I’m ready for the next step — upload to the Challenge Gallery. How exciting!

Love this blog, and all of you who put it together!

This was the perfect template for a group of photos I needed to scrapbook. My page is done & now I need to print it. What’s the best way to approach this in PSE 7? I need to cut the 12×24 page in half but I’m not sure how. I searched the forum but couldn’t find an answer there.

    Thanks!

      Hi Julie,
The best way to get your 12×24 pages converted to two separate 12×12′s is to do the following:
      1. Save the 12×24 as a jpeg.
      2. Open the 12×24 jpeg and use your rectangular marquee tool and select the left side page of the 12×24, then copy by pressing control C (Mac user press command C) and paste it by pressing control V (Mac user press command V) into a new 12×12 blank document.
      3. Save the 12×12 as a jpeg that will be ready to print as a 12×12.
      4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the right side of your 12×24.

Does that make sense? Hopefully that helps.

Thanks so much for the great template. I love templates that have lots of picture spaces. I wanted to post my finished pages for the challenge, but do I have to be a premier member to do that? I can’t seem to find a way to do it without being a member.

      Loretta,

You’re welcome! You do not have to be a Premier member to post in the gallery. You do need to register at our forum and then you will automatically be registered for the gallery at the same time, and then you can go and post. To become a member of the forum, go to this link: http://www.scrappersguide.com/forums/register.php

      Thanks! 🙂

I had the same problem. Once I registered I still needed to wait for an administrator to approve the account.

    Diana,
When I use templates I use the clipping mask, control G, on my templates. I’ve never used the magic wand on a template, so I’m not sure how it’s giving you an error. Have you tried using a clipping mask? I hope that helps.

I’m not having trouble downloading the template, but when I try to add a photo I get an error message telling me I can’t use the magic wand on the template.

I ended up opening it in PSE and it was there! I have never had this happen before. Normally I can see the file I have downloaded without opening it in PSE.

Anyway, it is all fixed now 😀

This is a tutorial that talks about clipping masks, which is necessary to use the free template – for those who don’t know how. The template is free, did you download that okay?
