Hi everyone,
It’s Andrea Graves here introducing Kayla Lamoreaux, a Scrapper’s Guide Tutorial Instructor, who will be writing a few blog posts for us with tips and tricks on blogging. We’ll let Kayla tell us about herself:
As the mother of five busy children, my philosophy with scrapbooking has always been, “Keep it simple.” That’s ultimately why I embraced going digital. Along with chronicling the everyday and extraordinary events of my immediate family, I also enjoy using photos I’ve collected of my extended family dating back to the 1800′s.
Since 2006, I’ve been blogging about digital scrapbooking and life at The Legacy Lady. I was the 2010 Digital Coach for Stacy Julian’s Library of Memories Class, I’m a former Wacom Penscrapper, and I’ve been a Scrapper’s Guide Premier Instructor since 2009.
My work has been published in several magazines, and I’ve also worked on the 2008-2009 Creative Team for CK Media’s Digital Scrapbooking Magazine. Most of all, though, I’m passionate about teaching. I blog at Digiscrap101, and I created curriculum and facilitated digital scrapbooking classes at Weber State University.
I am excited for the opportunity to share a little bit more about blogging here on the new Digital Scrapper blog. Blogging is a great way to keep family and friends up to date on the latest things you are doing. In fact, many are calling blogs a new type of scrapbooking! Truly, blogs are a great way to quickly document the happenings of your life with photos so that when you have the time to create a layout, you have a great reference!
One of the biggest questions I hear from students is, “I love the idea of a blog, but how do I make it look cute? Everything I try never looks quite right.” In my next few posts I will be sharing some tips and tutorials about how to add cute designer touches to your Blogger Blog.
This first video covers how to quickly customize a free blog header from The Background Fairy in Photoshop Elements, and then how to upload and center it on your blog. You will need a snippet of code which I will paste below the video. Enjoy!
Here’s the snippet of code you will need:
#header-inner
{
width: 648px;
margin: auto;
}

Kayla, (or anyone else), Can you please tell me what “hth” means?
Thanks!
Mary
Hello
I found you through the Graphics Fairy. I am trying to put my blog name in the header and love the instructions you have. They are great except I do not have Photo Shop. I have an app on my phone and thought maybe that will work but it does not allow typing of text. Is there a way to do it in Word? Sorry for asking a ? but I would love to just have my name in this simple header from Graphics Fairy. Thanks in advance and thanks for all your work in helping all of us out in the blogosphere.
Thank you for this tutorial!! I am very familiar with photoshop but am TOTALLY new to blogger and coding etc. It was driving me crazy that I couldn’t center my header. Now another little piece of my new blog puzzle has been solved. =)
Hi Kayla! Just wanted you to know that today I’ve been watching and using your “Simple Blog Header” instructions with a blog header I found from The Background Fairy. Being a total newbie at this, I am amazed at what you’ve just taught me. I have used Photoshop for some time now, and never knew I could do that with the eyedropper tool! I never knew I could customize my blog the way I wanted to, instead of just picking what Blogger has. (They have a great selection, but it doesn’t feel like “home” to me). I’ve learned so many things from you today! My brain is fried now, but I wanted to be sure and thank you for this video! I went to your blog and was able to look at all the scrapbook pages you’ve created. I loved every single one of them! I just want to know-how do you do it all? When do you find the time? Your work is so beautiful-I’d love to have the kind of creativity and knowledge that you do!
I’m not getting sound. Am I supposed to?
never mind…it helps to unmute the computer. Sorry…lack of sleep! lol
Thank you for this wonderful lesson. I followed you over to Digiscrap 101 and watched your videos on blogging. I only wish I had discovered your lessons sooner!! I uploaded all my pages (almost 60) straight to my blog when I see I should have uploaded them to Flickr (groan).
Thank you for starting this series! I’ve been considering starting a blog but haven’t taken the time to get started yet. I think this is just what I need!
Congratulations Kayla on your new adventure. I love following your work and can’t wait to see more of it here!
Thanks Patty!
Wow, this is wonderful!
Unfortunately, the video does not seem to load for me.
Try it again it should play. Let me know if it doesn’t work and we will try and troubleshoot it for you.
I’d be interested in WordPress videos, too. I’d really love to learn how to create my own WP template rather than having to depend on someone else to create something that looks scrapbookee to me. Thanks for the video…great stuff…as usual.
Welcome Kayla!!
How exciting — cannot wait to see your blogging videos!
My family and I have been blogging for years, but I’m still just a ‘student’ when it comes to the designer fixes.
We just recently switched from Blogger to WordPress (supposed to be more compatible with our website – which is under construction).
Would your videos also be applicable to WordPress?
Looking forward to learning from you,
xoxo
Jen White
Thanks Jen! There will be some things you can apply to WordPress, but most are geared towards Blogger. However, the design videos would apply anywhere – you would just need the right document size.
hth!
